I can edit and expand the vocabulary, make corrections, and dictate as fast as I can speak with a very high rate of accuracy; I can use transcription; and, I get to keep the far superior functionality of a Mac over a PC.

Dragon Professional Individual 6 has been discontinued with immediate effect; there will be no updates to the existing software and no further versions produced.

Nuance will no longer provide updates for the Software after 10222018.

The release of version 6 was disastrous at launch buggy, unstable and borderline unusable.

But things improved dramatically and, with the last 6.0.8 update, it seemed like Mac users finally had a version of Dragon nearer in stability and features than ever to the PC equivalent.

While you can continue to use Dragon, its anyones guess as to when or if it will stop working as Nuance does not guarantee compatibility with the latest version of macOS, Mojave.

You can still buy it from the likes of Amazon and eBay but, with a very real prospect of it being disabled by an OS update and no hope of a fix, it wouldnt be a wise way to spend your money.

While the Windows software undoubtedly has a larger installed user base, the majority of writers I come across are using Macs.

With no viable native solution (and no realistic competition), Mac users should consider using the Windows software via a virtual machine something I have long advocated.

As Dragon itself wont be updated, I cant see this changing for the public release.

While the software remains end-of-life and unsupported, this appears to be great news (for now) for any Mac users who have invested in this version of the software.

This entire text was dictated using Dragon 6.0.8 with the Apple Safari browser, and without any editing or corrections.

As a physician, I depend on Dragon every day for dictation for medical records.

For some reason, it works well on every computer I have except the iMac at my office, which is also running 10.14.6, but it crashes every time I open it with the same error message described above by Scott Baker.

Im able to dictate into Scrivener without the random cursor jumps and extra characters.

Whether Dragon will work or not remains to be seen, but as long as OS APIs Dragon uses remain unchanged, Dragon should work as previously.

I used to use Dragon Medical for Mac but it stopped being updated then was discontinued.

I really dont want to switch to a PC, and the main program I need to dictate into is Mac- only, so I really have to have a Mac solution, thanks.

If you truly depend on speech recognition on the Mac platform, then you are using already outdated a tools that are no longer supported and it should be expected that they will ultimately fail.

If your EMR is entirely Macintosh dependent, then a viable option as long as you have adequate hardware resources is virtualization for running a Windows version of Dragon on your Macintosh, which is really not an ideal solution and in my opinion a waste of hardware resources.

I am not, and have not, used an enterprise version or a cloud-based version of speech recognition, as you describe.

It hurts personally to read your opinion that I (always proud of my state-of-the-art practice) am using outdated tools, although I do understand what you mean re: Dragon for Mac 6.0.8 being unsupported.
